Biography of Theresa Patton
Theresa Patton is an inspiring ultra-runner, dedicated fitness coach, and passionate adventurer based in Gainesville, Florida. She has transformed her love for running into a lifelong journey of resilience, exploration, and community building.
A Journey of Resilience
Theresa’s path to ultra-running began with a significant challenge. A full-time hairstylist, she always enjoyed running as a workout, but a severe car accident nearly took that away from her. Doctors initially told her she might never run again. Determined to defy the odds, she committed to nine months of physical therapy and sought a second medical opinion. Through sheer perseverance, she not only regained her ability to run but pushed beyond expectations—transitioning from short 5K races to grueling ultra-marathons.
After recovering, she started pursuing fitness certifications to help others reach their goals. Starting with group fitness, adding certified personal training, behavioral change specialist, and now ultra running coach.
Though she started with road races, Theresa found her true passion in trail running. The switch happened naturally as she sought a deeper connection with nature and a break from the repetitive structure of road racing. She now primarily competes in ultra-distance trail races, drawn to the thrill of exploring new landscapes and pushing her endurance limits.
Embracing Ultra Distances
Theresa officially entered the world of running around 2015 and has since completed numerous distance events, including 50-mile and 100-mile races. The camaraderie and support of the ultra-running community fuel her passion. She thrives in the challenge of running through remote, rugged terrains, where athletes form unique bonds through shared determination and perseverance. One of her most memorable races was the Yeti 100 Mile Endurance Run, where she achieved a sub-24-hour finish. The experience of crossing the finish line in darkness after an entire day of running was both exhilarating and humbling.
Ultra-running is more than just an individual pursuit for Theresa—it’s about community. Whether pacing for fellow runners or receiving support from her Gainesville running group, she values the friendships and encouragement that come with the sport. The spirit of ultra-running is deeply rooted in inclusivity and mutual motivation, making even solo race experiences feel like a team effort.
Overcoming her injury remains one of Theresa’s greatest accomplishments. Her journey from being told she might never run again to completing ultra-marathons has strengthened her belief in perseverance and self-determination.Looking ahead, she dreams of tackling the Grand Slam of 200-Mile Races—a grueling series that includes the Cocodona 250, Tahoe 200, Bigfoot 200, and Moab 240 within the same year. She also aims to travel to new destinations, exploring the world through running and adventure.
On rest days, Theresa enjoys spending time with her two beloved dogs, taking them on long hikes and playing endless games of fetch. For Theresa, living life to the fullest means persistently working toward goals, no matter the obstacles.
